PNMG / LUNG EXPLORER / 08

See the pattern.
Understand the difference.

Eight perspectives on interstitial lung disease. Choose a pattern or condition and explore its typical distribution.

Educational schematic, not an HRCT or diagnostic tool. Distributions vary and overlap.

Symbolic texture: honeycombing. Lower lobes are projected schematically; they extend mainly posteriorly.

Morphological pattern

Usual interstitial pneumonia

Distribution
Predominantly subpleural and basal; heterogeneous distribution.
On HRCT
Reticulation and honeycombing, with or without traction bronchiectasis.
Clinical context
IPF, but also other causes, including connective tissue disease or hypersensitivity pneumonitis.
Keep in mind

UIP does not automatically mean IPF. Clinical context and exclusion of other causes are essential.

SELECT A LOBE

Tap the map or choose a lobe using the buttons.

Colour zones illustrate the selected condition/pattern’s distribution, not the probability of disease in a particular lobe.
